What are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are small, cap-shaped restorations that are designed to fit over the visible, biting surface of a tooth. They’re typically recommended for damaged or misshapen teeth, as well as following procedures such as a large filling or root canal treatment.

At Barr Family Dentistry, our crowns are custom-crafted from the highest quality dental materials, such as zirconia and ceramic. These are milled in a dental laboratory by skilled technicians, and each crown is shaded to match the color of your surrounding teeth, making the results look lifelike.

The Process of Getting a Dental Crown

Your dental crown process will begin by preparing your tooth that will be receiving a crown. To do this, we will remove the outermost layer of your tooth. This will allow your customized crown to fit seamlessly between your natural teeth and ensure a balanced bite and appearance.

After your tooth has been prepared, we will take a digital impression using our Trios scanner, which will only take a moment. That impression will immediately be sent to our off-site dental laboratory to craft your crown. To protect your tooth in the meantime, we’ll secure a temporary crown atop it.

Your crown should arrive from the lab within about two weeks. We’ll inspect it and make sure it’s to our standards before having you come back in. Our team will remove your temporary crown and permanently cement your lab-made one to your tooth to complete the process.

The Benefits of Dental Crowns
